Around noon Company 5 was alerted to the Parkway Eastbound for a reported 7 vehicle accident with possible entrapment and at least 1 vehicle overturned. As Medic 58 approached the scene they immediately requested additional EMS Units and to add the Rescue assignment. Crews from Engine 51, Rescue 6, and Rescue 4 worked with EMS Command and found no entrapment, but had 1 Tri-Axle on its side, 1 passenger vehicle overturned, and 6 other vehicles with heavy damage including a Tractor Trailer. EMS Command completed triage and worked with 4 EMS units from stations 5, 4 and 1 for patient care. With the large amount of debris on the ground from the overturned Tri-Axle, Penn Dot was requested to the scene. After clean up was completed and Magills Towing removed all the vehicles from the roadway, Engine 51 and Rescue 4 completed a wash down of the highway before clearing the scene. This incident was a wonderful example of the great teamwork and coordinated efforts for not only the Monroeville Fire Department and EMS, but also with Monroeville Police, PSP, Penn Dot, and Magills towing.
